A certain desire to be afraid?
Lou-Ann (14) and her brother Ugo (16) came to Moselle with an idea in mind: to take part in the Beasts and Witches festival and experience some of its most hair-raising events.
Getting pulses racing from the outset, they began their trip at the ghoulish Couloirs de l’Effroi (Corridors of Terror) in the Citadel of Bitche. “Cool but terrifying”, gasps Lou-Ann, who enjoyed this immersive underground experience filled with skeletons and zombies. “We’ve had an eye on this event for quite a while.”
And after ...?
After all, it's all about the thrills. So head to the Table Alsacienne in Farébersviller for a local gastronomic treat, before spending the night in one of the rooms at this 3-star hotel.
The secrets of heritage
The next day, they delved straight into the warren of tunnels at Hackenberg Fort, centrepiece of the Maginot Line, for a ghost hunt, seeking traces of the ghost of the soldier Hippolyte.
The next stop on this ghoulish tour was Château Saint-Sixte for the Grimacing Beetroot festival, for a look back to the origins of Halloween. On the agenda: beetroot carving and magic potions.
A moment to catch their breath...
... To the Grange de Condé
The family end their trip by putting their suitcases down and their feet up at La Grange de Condé, a Hotel-Restaurant-Spa in Condé-Northen, to enjoy top-class facilities in welcoming, verdant surroundings. A few hours to relax and unwind: “We need time to recover with these two around”, admits the father of the two teens.
... To explore the Voie Bleue
That afternoon they opt for a bike ride. The family prepare to set out on the Voie Bleue between Thionville and Metz, a feast for the eyes, winding through industrial heritage and wetlands before arriving in the historic centre of Metz for an afternoon visiting the most beautiful monuments of the mosellan capital.
Lou-Ann has a huge grin on her face: “Metz is buzzing! Between shopping and a restaurant in the evening, we’ve had a great time together.” She has one thing on her mind: coming back next year!
