Église Saint-Brice

SAULNY

This is the very type of fortified church found in the Messin region. The five-sided choir, with cross vaults and ribs, small windows and four-lobed oculus, dates from the 15th century. The nave dates from the 17th century. But rarely has a country church boasted such a wealth of statues from the 14th to the 20th century: a mitred Saint Lazare (14th century), patron saint of beggars, the poor and lepers, a Saint Eloi in Jaumont stone (15th century), a wooden Saint Vincent and a Saint Jean Népocumène from the 18th century, a Virgin and Child (early 19th century), a Saint Nicolas and a Saint Joseph by a contemporary Alsatian sculptor. The sacristy features a 17th-century ivory Christ. The church is open by appointment only.
