Historic monument or place to visit in SILLEGNY, on the theme(s) Sacred art, awarded with the Label Listed historic monument (MH).
The 15th-century church of Saint-Martin in Sillegny, with its loopholes, is typical of fortified churches in the Messin region. Described as the Sistine Chapel of the Seille, it is home to some remarkable frescoes, painted between 1460 and 1540, which constitute a veritable catechism in images. Long covered in whitewash, they were rediscovered in 1845 by Abbé Schnabel after the apse had been scraped. The church was completely restored between 2002 and 2004, so the frescoes are in a perfect state of preservation.
