On the occasion of the 2nd edition of the Politéïa festival of ideas, organized by the City of Thionville, in partnership with the association Des Mots & Débats, we offer you a fascinating musical conference that fits in brilliantly with our theme "What progress? It all starts with a photo. An image that has been seen around the world. Elizabeth Eckford, alone, pursued by a racist horde. In particular, a young girl, Hazel Bryan. It was September 4, 1957, in Little Rock, Arkansas, the start of a new school year marked by the end of school segregation. The 9 black children enrolled at Little Rock Central High School, hitherto reserved for whites only, were surrounded by a hysterical crowd. It could have been a dream... It was a nightmare... This musical lecture delivers the captivating story of nine teenagers' fight for their rights. A past that, more than sixty years later, is still with us...
On stage, Thomas Snégaroff, a journalist and historian specializing in the United States, tells the story from which he drew a book, Little Rock 1957, accompanied by Xavier Bussy, a clarinettist who plays tunes from the era (Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington...). Music and text come together in a fascinating lecture that takes us back to an America that is both fascinating and terrifying.
A play based on a true story.
