The toad is subject to metamorphosis: in ponds, the tadpole becomes a frog; in fairy tales, the animal becomes Prince Charming.
This funny, enigmatic title tells the true story of two young Polish doctors and friends who, in 1940, save thousands of lives thanks to the fruit of their imagination: their medical deception and daring comedy save the inhabitants of Rozwadow from deportation by the Nazis.
The stratagem they devise seems sufficiently dramatic and funny at the same time for the author to turn it into a wacky historical comedy.
