Sarreguemines Tourisme Bord de Sarre
Our tour starts at the car park of the Moulin de la Blies in Sarreguemines, which gives access to the Musée des Techniques Faïencières and the wonderful Jardin des Faïenciers, where it is possible to picnic. We head towards the centre of Sarreguemines and drive along the left-hand side of the river Saar. After passing the Casino des Faïenceries, with its Art Nouveau tiles, we cross the Saar and at the other end of the bridge, we take a staircase that leads down to the river. We follow the signs to the Saarland and Saarbrücken. The lock-keepers' huts are now privately owned, and barge holidaymakers provide regular entertainment when they pass a lock. Just before the Güdingen lock, we cross the border into Germany without really realising it. Opposite the small goose island, there is a shady garden restaurant, which lends itself to a break. Beware, at this point we have to leave the track along the Saar and follow the yellow Vélo visàvis logo, which guides us into the village. After passing the first houses, we turn left and cross the main road into the centre of Güdingen. We follow the signs to Fechingen. Just before the Fechingen town entrance sign, the Saar-Nahe-Höhen-Radweg cycle path branches off to the left, but we follow the yellow Vélo visàvis sign on the main road. On leaving the village, at the Fechingen swimming pool, the path winds through fields to the first houses in the village of Eschringen. We turn right towards the sports field. Ahead of us lies the only long climb of our hike, which requires us to climb about 120 metres. At the top we are rewarded with an impressive panoramic view. Then we turn right towards Auersmacher. During this part of our tour, the cycle route coincides with the Saarland Way of St. James, which is recognisable by the shell symbol and the special paving.
On flat paths we pass through the forest and at two points we have to cross the motorway (be careful!). The forest widens and we come across one of the most beautiful views Saarland has to offer: the Werzholzer Weg with its sensational panoramic view as far as the Donon, if the weather conditions are good.
Downhill, we drive to Auersmacher. Slightly uphill, we ride along the village, then we can again enjoy the beautiful view on the continuous descent to the Blies. Beautiful meadow orchards line our path. From here, the route leads into the Mühlenwald forest with a fishing pond and a brewery. We ride along the edge of the forest, cross the bridge at the Blies Mill and then return to our starting point.
