The casemates, like the one on the Petersberg, are concrete blocks with a firing chamber and a basement ensuring the continuity of fire between two larger works. This firepower is delivered by a new weapon adapted to fortifications: the twin machine gun. In Escherange, the casemate is situated in a bucolic setting, in the immediate vicinity of the ruins of the old church (Alte Kirch). A walk in the surrounding forest will lead you to other hidden shelters or to exceptional small military heritage, such as an old buried tank!
