Far from home, the soldiers of the fortress troops live out their daily lives in the monster of the Maginot Line, worrying whether an enemy attack is just around the corner. It's a life punctuated by training, service duties and outdoor patrols in abandoned villages emptied of their inhabitants. They wait for letters and parcels from their families, from the Red Cross to improve the ordinary, and try to decorate the interior of the building with what they have on hand. For the past 3 months and throughout this strange war, there has been a strange atmosphere in the galleries, and everyone is trying to do something in the run-up to Christmas to brighten up their daily lives a little.
