Gilles Pecqueur - Sarreguemines Tourisme Campagne
From France to Germany along the meanders of the Blies...
An alternation of greenways and small quiet roads, sometimes in France, sometimes in Germany, following the course of the Blies.
The departure can be done in front of the site of the Moulin de la Blies elected 9th favorite monument of the French in 2015. Take a walk in the Garden of the Faience Manufacturers in the middle of the industrial wasteland on the banks of the Blies. If you wish, you can also visit the Museum of Faience Techniques, located in the former production plant that made the city famous.
Take the bicycle path on the banks of the Blies towards Blies-Guersviller. This small town has a very nice fountain topped by a statue of Saint Quirin erected in the middle of the 19th century. Some people still attribute healing powers to its water. An arboretum has also been created on the banks of the river. This educational trail is presented in the form of themed panels providing information on the fauna and flora of the banks of the Blies.
Then continue along the course of the Blies, the natural border with Germany. Cross Blies-Schweyen and head towards Frauenberg. You can stop here to visit the ruins of the castle or the Jewish cemetery whose oldest graves date back to 1740. For earthenware lovers, a large collection of plates from the Sarreguemines earthenware factory is on display in a room on the second floor of the town hall.
Continue your journey to the European Archaeological Park of Bliesbruck-Reinheim. The last stage of your journey through the Blies valley leads you to our Celtic and Gallo-Roman ancestors!
On your way back to Sarreguemines, still along the Blies, cross the river into Germany to reach Habkirchen, which houses a nice little museum dedicated to the customs, its entrance is free.
Towns and villages crossed : Blies-Guersviller, Blies-Schweyen, Frauenberg, Habkirchen, Bliesbruck
