Falkenstein castle (literally meaning Falcon’s rock) is the largest stronghold in the Bitche region and used to crown a steep pink sandstone rock face. It was destroyed by lightening during the Renaissance period. This stronghold has been prohibited to visitors since 1999 for safety reasons.
