Historic monument or place to visit in METZ, on the theme(s) Sacred art, awarded with the Label Listed historic monument (MH).
Built in the 13th to 16th centuries of local limestone, Metz Cathedral is a masterpiece of Gothic art. Its 42-metre-high nave is the 3rd highest in France. It is pierced by over 6,500 m2 of stained glass, dating from the 13th to the 20th centuries, earning it the nickname "God's lantern". From Hermann de Münster, Thiebault de Lixheim and Valentin Bousch to Jacques Villon and Marc Chagall, its stained-glass windows present a veritable encyclopedia of glass art.
